Adolescent Issues

Adolescence is a period of transition between childhood and adulthood marked by anxieties, worries, ambitions, conflicts and complexities. Adolescence is a time for great changes for any individual. The teenage years bring many changes, not only physically but also emotionally, mentally, socially and cognitively. At this stage of their life, adolescents are growing at a very fast pace physically experiencing a lot of hormonal changes in their bodies. They are going through an emotional turmoil as they are struggling to form an identity of their own and crave for their own independence. During these years, the teenagers start to think abstractly forming their own ideas and opinions which might not be always shared by their parents resulting in disagreements and arguments like never before. During this phase, adolescents start making future plans for their career and set long term goals for themselves. Peer relationships are very influential in adolescence.

During this time, when teenagers are seeking independence from their parents, peers become a significant source of social and emotional support and can have both a positive and a negative influence. It is important to remember that teenagers are going through their life's biggest roller-coaster ride called the “The Adolescent Period”.

For their positive mental health, it is essential to nurture them with love, care, respect, acceptance and encouragement.
